More than 41,000 applications have been received for admission to about 12,000 seats in 80 Jharkhand government-run Schools of Excellence, an official said on Friday. This marks a 345 per cent increase in applications compared to the total seats. The maximum number of applications were received from Deoghar (4,241), Palamu (3,524), Ranchi (2,766), Lohardaga (2,637) and Chatra (2,391). The selection test will be held on May 30 and the first merit list will be published on June 7.

The aim of the Jharkhand government is to provide quality English-medium education at par with private schools to the students in government school, and thus these 80 district-level Schools of Excellence were inaugurated by the Chief Minister Hemant Soren on May 2.

Besides, in order to ensure the successful implementation of these schools, a two-fold training of the school Principals was done by the National Center for School Leadership in two phases and the Azim Premji Foundation. In addition, IIMs too conducted training for the capacity building of the school Principals in January. Also, all students in these 80 Schools of Excellence will be imparted vocational training for 11 trades.

In astonishing news from the Schools of Excellence , 10 students of Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya (KGBV) in Khunti district have cleared the JEE Mains exams in April 2021, showing great potential and determination among students studying in these government-run schools.

These Schools of Excellence are the outcome of the second-phase of the government’s academic reform plan, which includes the 325 block-level schools and 4,091 gram panchayat level model schools set up across the state.

This article is all about the successful implementation of 80 Schools of Excellence, and how the initiative has set a benchmark for the quality of education in government schools in Jharkhand. By providing quality education opportunities to 15 lakh school children, government-run schools can have strong, equal competition from the private ones.
