Assam’s international rifle shooter Hriday Hazarika believes that the Khelo India University Games 2022 Uttar Pradesh will be an excellent platform to test his skills. 21 year-old Hriday, who recently won a silver medal at the Baku World Cup in Azerbaijan, has been preparing himself to shoot the perfect shot at the upcoming event. Representing Guwahati’s Cotton University at the Khelo India University Games, he plans to challenge his abilities under the given circumstances.
On Thursday, Hriday spent an hour at the Dr Karni Singh Shooting Ranges to check his equipment and skill. He declared himself satisfied with the shooting range’s facilities. He also shared his journey of shooting which started almost a decade ago. It all started with the introduction of air gun shooting in the premises of local Shankar Dev College. His interest developed and from pistol, Hriday gradually switched to 10m air rifle event. He soon acquired his own weapon, and succesfully won the first national medal, a gold in 10m air rifle in the age group category in 2016.
He is thankful for the support he receives from his college officials throughout his journey, which allows him to manage both academics and sports. After the Khelo India University Games later this year, Hriday will compete domestically in June, followed by national selection trials in July. The Indian team will be also eligible to earn one more quota place for the 2024 Paris Olympic Games.
The Dr Karni Singh Shooting Range has become a second home to the promising shooter of Assam, who often practices there when not competing in international events. This year’s Khelo India University Games is bound to be another venue for him to test his skills and abilities – a great opportunity for the up and coming sportsperson of the nation.
