On Thursday, Medical Education Minister Vishwas Kailash Sarang conducted a trial run on the Bharat Talkies ROB in Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh) and restored traffic to the area. Apart from the minister, Mayor Malti Rai, other officials from the Public Works Department and representatives of the local population were also present when the repair work of the bridge was inspected.
The commissioner informed the public that the needed roadway had been reopened and promised to asphalt the floor in a week after a successful trial. The ROB is used to connect a large portion of Bhopal to the city station. Unfortunately, exposure to heavy traffic and wear and tear had fully damaged all 360 bearings and 15 expansion joints of the bridge, thus creating the risk of a severe accident.
To add further life to the bridge, new bearings and joints were put in place within the time frame of 15 days. All this while, Minister Sarang, using a jeep, conducted a half-hour test drive from Sangam Tiraha on one side of the bridge to Bhopal station platform (number -1) near the Bajaria police post. To show the readiness of the route, other two and four-wheelers were also allowed to traverse the ROB.
Bharat Talkies ROB is an important roadway in Bhopal, providing good access to commuters, tourists, and people who live in the vicinity. Maintaining good traffic flow is essential and the Public Works Department made sure to complete the repair work in time to ensure the safety of all. Further asphalting will be done in the upcoming week to make sure that the area can cope with the pressure of a high number of people using the ROB every day.
