Baltimore County Public Schools in Maryland are seeking volunteers from among parents and staff to serve on a study committee responsible for determining new boundaries for over a dozen elementary schools. The committee will consist of two parents and one staff member representing each of the 19 schools included in the central elementary school boundary process. The main objective of the study is to alleviate overcrowding in the central area elementary schools and explore solutions to maximize available space.

The new boundaries are anticipated to be implemented for the 2024-2025 school year and will be decided upon by the Board of Education. Anyone interested in participating in the committee can complete the Committee Member Interest Form or reach out to their respective school’s principal by August 4. The selection of committee members will take place this summer, and they will convene in September 2023. Meetings will occur between September 2023 and January 2024, during which the committee will hold two public information sessions.

In February and March of 2024, the Board of Education will review the committee’s recommendations, hold a public hearing, and ultimately make a decision regarding the proposed boundary changes. The aim of this process is to involve various stakeholders and ensure transparency in the decision-making process.

To meet these goals effectively, the school district is actively seeking volunteers who can dedicate time and contribute constructively to the study committee. Volunteers will have the opportunity to shape the future of their local elementary schools and make a positive impact on the community. The committee’s work will play a crucial role in ensuring balanced enrollment and optimal use of resources.

Baltimore County Public Schools encourages individuals who are interested in serving on the committee to come forward and get involved. With the participation of parents and staff, the school district aims to develop fair and equitable boundaries that address the current challenges faced by central area elementary schools.

By engaging with the community through this committee, Baltimore County Public Schools strives to create an inclusive and collaborative decision-making process. The district acknowledges the importance of input and perspectives from a diverse range of people in order to make informed and responsible choices that benefit all students and families.

This initiative not only reflects the school district’s commitment to providing quality education but also demonstrates its support for an engaged and participatory community. Volunteers will have the opportunity to work together, voice their opinions, and contribute to the future success of Baltimore County’s elementary schools.

As the deadline for expressing interest approaches, the school district urges parents and staff to take advantage of this valuable opportunity and play an active role in shaping the educational experience for students in the Baltimore County area. Through open dialogue and collaboration, the study committee can help create a stronger and more equitable educational system for all.
