Hyderabad Woman Found Starving in Chicago, Seeks Urgent Help from Indian Government

Syeda Lulu Minhaj Zaidi, a woman from Hyderabad who traveled to the United States to pursue a master’s degree, has been found starving on the streets of Chicago. Her mother, Syeda Wahaj Fatima, has requested immediate assistance from the Indian government to bring her daughter back to India as soon as possible.

Zaidi was enrolled in a master’s program at TRINE University in Detroit, Chicago. However, her family lost contact with her over the past two months, and they recently discovered that she had lost her belongings, including her bags and certificates, which caused her to fall into depression. Her health has deteriorated, and her mother is deeply concerned for her well-being.

Amjed Ullah Khan, a spokesperson for the Majlis Bachao Tehreek (MBT), a political party in Telangana, raised awareness about Zaidi’s situation. According to Khan, a few boys from Hyderabad spotted Zaidi outside a mosque in Chicago just a few days ago.

Syeda Wahaj Fatima wrote a heartfelt letter to External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, urging him to step in and facilitate her daughter’s return. In the letter, Fatima described Zaidi’s dire condition and how she is on the verge of starvation after her belongings were stolen.

The MBT spokesperson and Fatima have appealed for the government’s intervention in bringing Zaidi back home. However, the Ministry of External Affairs and the Indian Consulate in Chicago have stated that Zaidi is not currently in a condition to travel. Efforts are being made to send Zaidi’s parents to Chicago to take care of her, but they require passports, which they currently do not possess. The MBT has requested assistance from IT Minister KTR to expedite the passport and visa process.

The government, along with various organizations and individuals, has responded promptly to the situation. Spokesperson Khan expressed gratitude to S Jaishankar, the Indian Consulate in Chicago, and all the organizations that have offered support.

This distressing incident highlights the challenges faced by individuals studying abroad and the importance of timely assistance and support. Zaidi’s case also underscores the need for better communication channels between students and their families to ensure their well-being while they are away from home. The Indian government’s efforts to aid Zaidi and her family are crucial in addressing this unfortunate situation and bringing her back to India safely.

In conclusion, it is imperative that appropriate steps are taken to ensure the welfare of students studying abroad, including providing them with access to support resources during difficult times. The case of Syeda Lulu Minhaj Zaidi serves as a reminder of the potential challenges that can arise and the need for swift assistance from relevant authorities.
