Gupshup is a homegrown conversational engagement platform that has recently revealed their innovative capability to bring the convenience of UPI payments to feature phones. The app, called GSPay, makes use of SMS messaging and does not require a data plan or internet connectivity. With this new service, feature phone users can use UPI payments and scan QR codes for payments.
To make a payment, users need to enter the payee’s mobile number or UPI ID, the amount, and their UPI PIN. After confirmation, the UPI payment is completed and the user receives a notification. GSPay is available in 12 Indian languages, including English, Hindi, Marathi, Odia, and Assamese, to ensure broader reach. This service is powered by UPI 123 Pay, an instant payment system launched by RBI and NPCI (National Payments Corporation of India) last year. Gupshup has partnered with Nokia, HMD Global, and Airtel Payments Bank to make this service available.
