A special investigation team has been formed to uncover the alleged theft of 240 British-era gold coins by four policemen in the Alirajpur district of Madhya Pradesh, India. The four cops, from Sondwa police station, are accused of taking the antique coins from a tribal family. The family had discovered the valuable coins while working as laborers at an excavation site in Gujarat and had hidden them in their home in Madhya Pradesh. The policemen have been placed under suspension, and an FIR has been registered against them.

The investigation team, led by Additional Superintendent of Police Sakharam Sengar, is working in two parts. The first team accompanied the complainant and her family members to Belimora village in Gujarat, where they had found the gold coins during the excavation. The police also visited the house in Gujarat where the gold coins were discovered by the tribal family.

The second team is actively searching for the accused policemen and attempting to recover the stolen gold coins. Meanwhile, Nagarsingh Chauhan, the former BJP MLA and vice president of the state unit, has demanded the immediate arrest of the accused cops and the inclusion of loot-related sections in the FIR, in addition to theft charges.

The stolen gold coins, dating back to 1922, are 90% pure gold and have significant antique value. While the coin’s current market value is around Rs 45,000, it could fetch much more in international markets due to its rarity. The police will seek legal advice on the issue of returning the coins to the tribal family after recovering them.

The investigation is being conducted in a fair and impartial manner to ensure that no one can influence the process. The accused policemen, including the police station in-charge and three constables, were suspended based on reasonable confirmation, even though their names did not initially appear in the FIR.

According to the police complaint, the four cops arrived at the tribal family’s house on July 19, assaulted the wife, and stole the buried 240 gold coins. The family had stumbled upon the coins while working as laborers in Gujarat and had hidden them underground upon returning home.

The theft and subsequent investigation shed light on the plight of tribal communities in Madhya Pradesh, as they often migrate to Gujarat and Rajasthan to make a living. It is essential for the authorities to maintain fairness and transparency in resolving the case and address the concerns of the tribal family.

The formation of the special investigation team demonstrates the commitment of the Madhya Pradesh Police to uncovering the truth and bringing the accused policemen to justice. The involvement of different perspectives and opinions in the investigation is crucial to maintaining journalistic integrity and providing a balanced view of the situation.

As the investigation continues, it is essential for the authorities to thoroughly examine all evidence and ensure that those responsible for the theft are held accountable. The recovered gold coins should be returned to the tribal family, considering the historical and sentimental value associated with them.
