Persistent downpours in Shimla district of Himachal Pradesh have caused blockages on National Highways in the Jeori and Broni Nallah areas near Jhakri. The heavy rainfall in the region has led to the closure of these highways, as confirmed by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI). Furthermore, a cloudburst in Kullu’s Panchnala has resulted in the destruction of several houses.
As a result of the cloudburst, five houses were completely damaged, while 15 others were partially damaged. Moreover, the Bhuntar-Gadsa Maniyar road and two bridges were also washed away. In addition to these incidents, landslides in the Shimla and Kinnaur districts have blocked National Highway-5 at three different locations.
The Himachal Pradesh Traffic, Tourist and Railways Police took to Twitter to inform the public about road closures in the Shimla district. NH 705 Theog-Hatkoti road, Kotkhai-Baghi road, and Fagu-Kot darbar road have all been closed due to landslides.
On July 22, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued an orange alert for heavy rainfall in eight districts of Himachal Pradesh. The region continues to face challenges due to the persistent downpours and the consequences they bring.
Overall, persistent downpours have caused blockages on National Highways in Shimla district, while a cloudburst in Kullu resulted in significant damage to houses. Landslides in the Shimla and Kinnaur districts have also caused road closures. The affected areas are facing challenges due to the heavy rainfall, and the situation remains precarious.
