A woman in Indore, Madhya Pradesh fell victim to a cunning scam when a man swapped her ATM card and cheated her out of Rs 1.20 lakh. The incident took place in an area under the jurisdiction of the Pardeshipura Police Station. Though the identity of the accused remains unknown, the police have retrieved CCTV footage in hopes of advancing their investigation.

The Pardeshipura police have filed a case of cheating and theft against the unidentified suspect who skillfully substituted the victim’s ATM card inside the ATM booth and proceeded to withdraw money using the stolen card.

According to the police report, the victim, Palak Rajora, an employee of a private company residing in Veena Nagar, visited the State Bank of India (SBI) ATM at Pardeshipura on June 10. Her intention was to withdraw Rs 20,000. During the transaction, Palak phoned her mother to ask for the PIN that the bank had sent to her registered mobile number. However, unbeknownst to Palak, an unidentified person stood behind her, opportunely swapping her card with another card without her notice. Since Palak had already inputted the PIN, she received her money and proceeded to leave the ATM booth. It was only two days later, on June 12, when her mother received a message indicating a debit of Rs 10,000, that they realized something was amiss. Upon inspecting the card, Palak’s mother noticed it was not her daughter’s but instead belonged to someone else. In the meantime, the accused managed to withdraw a staggering Rs 1.20 lakh using the victim’s swapped card. The police are now making efforts to identify the suspect by scrutinizing the CCTV footage.

In conclusion, an unsuspecting woman became the unfortunate target of a scam artist who skillfully swapped her ATM card while she was in the booth, leading to a loss of Rs 1.20 lakh. Authorities are working diligently to locate and apprehend the unidentified suspect by utilizing the available CCTV evidence. In light of this incident, it is crucial for individuals to exercise caution and remain vigilant while conducting ATM transactions to avoid falling victim to such fraudulent schemes.
