The Congress party has decided to move a no-confidence motion against the Narendra Modi-led central government in the Lok Sabha over the Manipur issue. Gaurav Gogoi, the Congress deputy leader in the Lok Sabha, will be moving the motion on behalf of the united opposition. The opposition’s goal is to break the government’s arrogance and force Prime Minister Modi to address the Manipur violence in Parliament.
Although the motion is expected to fail due to numbers, the opposition believes it will succeed in cornering the government on the Manipur issue and winning the perception battle. They argue that it is necessary to make the prime minister speak in Parliament on this crucial matter, despite the government’s insistence that Home Minister Amit Shah will respond to the debate on the Manipur situation.
The Congress party has issued a whip in the Lower House of Parliament, asking its members to be present in the parliamentary office to discuss important issues. The INDIA alliance, comprising 26 opposition parties, has decided to support the no-confidence motion in order to force the government to address the concerns surrounding Manipur.
