Mayur Hazarika, the UPSC male topper from Assam, is proud to have secured the fifth rank among the successful male candidates in the civil service examination. The top four ranks of the civil service have been bagged by female candidates. Hazarika is an MBBS degree holder who aspired to join the civil service since he was in Class 12.
Hazarika is the eldest son of Assistant Executive Engineer Krishna Hazarika of Assam’s PWD and home maker Mousumi. He had secured 9th rank in the class 12 examination conducted by Assam Higher Secondary Education Council and 10th rank in the class 10 exam conducted by Secondary Education Board of Assam in 2013. While continuing his medical practice, Hazarika took online coaching for the civil services examination. He gave up the practice after clearing the preliminary examination and is keen to join the Indian Foreign Service.
The UPSC (Union Public Service Commission) is India’s premier central recruiting agency. It is responsible for recruiting candidates for various civil service posts under Government of India. The institution conducts a number of examinations each year for the appointment of personnel at various levels of the government. It is revered and respected for its transparency and fairness in conducting the examination.
