Rain hampers Pakistan’s progress on the second day of the second Test against Sri Lanka, with play limited to only 10 overs at the Singhalese Sports Club. Despite the weather interruptions, young batsman Abdullah Shafique shines with an impressive innings.

Pakistan began the day hoping to capitalize on their advantage after bowling out Sri Lanka for 166 in their first innings. However, rain played spoilsport and restricted play for most of the day. In the limited 10 overs of play that was possible, Pakistan managed to add 33 runs to their overnight score, reaching a total of 178/2 in 38.3 overs.

Abdullah Shafique showcased his talent and determination, remaining unbeaten on 87 off 131 balls. His innings included eight boundaries and two sixes, highlighting his ability to score runs at a steady pace. Meanwhile, captain Babar Azam provided steady support, contributing 28 not out from 49 deliveries.

The partnership between Shafique and Azam proved fruitful, with the duo adding 50 runs for the third wicket before rain interrupted play. The inclement weather led to an early lunch break and subsequently prevented any further play due to wet ground conditions.

The rain persisted, forcing the umpires to call off play for the day with Pakistan holding a 12-run lead with eight wickets in hand. Despite the limited action, Pakistan remains well-positioned to build on their advantage in the match.

Sri Lanka will be eager for the weather to clear up and provide them with an opportunity to stage a comeback. They will aim to restrict Pakistan’s lead as they look to turn the tide in their favor.

Brief scores at the end of the second day stand at Sri Lanka trailing Pakistan by 12 runs, with the latter reaching 178/2 in 38.2 overs. Abdullah Shafique’s impressive knock remains the highlight of the match so far, supported by Shan Masood’s contribution of 51 runs. Sri Lankan bowler Asitha Fernando claimed two wickets for 51 runs.

The cricketing action will resume as both teams anticipate better weather conditions on the third day of the Test. Pakistan will be eager to extend their lead and put Sri Lanka under further pressure, while the hosts will be determined to make a strong comeback and turn the match in their favor.

Overall, it has been a frustrating day for both teams due to the persistent rain, but the stage is set for an exciting battle when the weather permits. Cricket enthusiasts eagerly await the resumption of play, hoping for an uninterrupted and thrilling contest between Pakistan and Sri Lanka.
