State-owned Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL) has recently entered into a Rs 110-crore agreement with the Andhra Pradesh State Housing Company Limited (APSHCL) to provide energy-efficient appliances to beneficiaries of a government scheme in the state. Under this partnership, residents of Jagananna colonies in Andhra Pradesh will receive 6 lakh LED bulbs, 3 lakh LED tube lights, and 3 lakh BLDC ceiling fans through the nodal agency Andhra Pradesh State Energy Efficiency Development Corporation Ltd (APSEEDCO).

The initiative is part of the Andhra Pradesh government’s Navaratnalu Pedalandariki Illu (NPI) scheme, aimed at providing housing and infrastructure to the needy. By distributing energy-efficient appliances, EESL aims to promote sustainable and energy-saving practices among the residents of Jagananna colonies.

Furthermore, EESL has also signed two other agreements worth approximately Rs 50 crore each. The first agreement is with the Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council (LAHDC), Leh, to address electricity and cooking needs in remote areas of Leh. Through this partnership, rechargeable inverter bulbs and induction cook stoves will be distributed to meet the energy requirements of these areas.

The second agreement worth Rs 50 crore is with Loughborough University, UK, under the Modern Energy Cooking Service (MECS) program. The objective of this collaboration is to promote and deploy electric cooking on a large scale in India, which is a significant step towards reducing greenhouse gas emissions and transitioning to cleaner cooking solutions.

Additionally, EESL has also signed an agreement with IIT Madras to support medium, small, and micro enterprises (MSMEs) in enhancing productivity and cost savings through energy assessments and the implementation of energy conservation measures. This initiative will contribute to the overall development and growth of MSMEs by providing them with energy-efficient solutions.

The agreements were signed during the 14th Clean Ministerial Meet (CMM) held in Goa. EESL, a joint venture of NTPC Limited, Power Finance Corporation, Rural Electrification Corporation, and POWERGRID, was established under the Ministry of Power to facilitate the implementation of energy efficiency projects in India.

These initiatives focus on promoting energy efficiency, reducing carbon emissions, and enhancing the adoption of sustainable practices in the country. By providing energy-efficient appliances, supporting remote areas with electricity and cooking solutions, and assisting MSMEs in optimizing their energy usage, EESL is playing a crucial role in India’s journey towards a greener and more sustainable future.
