Igbo Faction Places $500,000 Bounty on Biafra Agitator Ekpa Amid Rising Tensions – Ohanaeze
The Chidi Ibeh faction of Ohanaeze Ndigbo has called on residents of the South East to dismiss the two-week sit-at-home order issued by acclaimed Biafra agitator Simon Ekpa, who is based in Finland. The group has urged people in the region to rise against Ekpa’s activities and put an end to his nefarious and infamous actions. In a statement released in Abakaliki, the Secretary-General of the Ohanaeze faction, Okechukwu Isiguzoro, announced that the Igbo organization has offered a substantial bounty of $500,000 for information leading to Ekpa’s arrest.
According to Ohanaeze, in collaboration with political leaders from the South East, they are determined to bring Ekpa to justice for his alleged sponsorship of armed groups and involvement in the recent surge of violence and insecurity in the region. The group has called on all Igbo individuals to actively participate in preventing violence and disruptions to economic activities in the area.
On a different note, President General of Ohanaeze, Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu, highlighted the significant role played by the Igbo community in Nigeria’s social, political and economic history and development. During a reception held in his honor by the United Kingdom (UK) branch of Ohanaeze in North London, Iwuanyanwu emphasized that the Igbo, aside from residing and working in every part of the country, make the highest economic contribution to Nigeria’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP). He further discussed plans to establish a Hall of Fame and Museum of Igbo history to honor notable individuals who have contributed to shaping and preserving Igbo heritage.
