The Manipur crisis has caught the attention of the international community, but unfortunately, it has failed to garner similar attention within India. This discrepancy was highlighted by Samajwadi Party MP Jaya Bachchan during a parliamentary session, where she accused the Modi government of deliberately avoiding discussions on the matter. Bachchan expressed her disappointment by stating, Manipur is being discussed internationally, but not in our country. It’s a shame. They (Government) do not want discussion.

As a result of the ongoing ethnic violence in Manipur, opposition members of both the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha demanded a statement from Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Unsatisfied with the government’s response, they continued their protest, leading to the adjournment of proceedings for the day.

In a bid to address the situation, Home Minister Amit Shah expressed his willingness to hold a discussion in Lok Sabha on the Manipur issue. He urged opposition leaders to engage in a debate, emphasizing the importance of shedding light on the truth surrounding the crisis.

However, the opposition members persisted with their demands for a statement from Prime Minister Modi. Frustrated by the impasse, Speaker Om Birla adjourned the proceedings for the day after the House reconvened following three earlier adjournments over the Manipur issue.

In response to these developments, leaders of several opposition parties took to the Parliament complex to stage a protest. They carried placards and banners that read INDIA for Manipur and INDIA demands PM’s statement on Manipur. Slogans against the government were also raised near Mahatma Gandhi’s statue.

It is pertinent to note that the Manipur crisis has gained international attention due to its severity and implications. The lack of discourse within the country concerning this pressing issue is a matter of concern raised not only by Jaya Bachchan but by many individuals who believe that it should be given the attention it deserves.

The government’s willingness to engage in discussions and investigations is vital in bringing the truth to light and finding a resolution. While the opposition members continue to demand a statement from the Prime Minister, it is crucial for all stakeholders involved to come together, set aside their political differences, and work towards a constructive dialogue that addresses the grievances of the people affected by the crisis.

In conclusion, it is regrettable that the Manipur crisis has received more attention internationally than domestically. The lack of discussion within the country is concerning and calls for immediate action. Both the government and the opposition must prioritize the well-being of the people of Manipur and engage in meaningful conversations to find a resolution to the ongoing crisis.
