Veteran actor Jayant Sawarkar, known for his exceptional contributions to Marathi and Hindi cinema, passed away at the age of 88. The acclaimed actor breathed his last at a private hospital in Mumbai after succumbing to age-related ailments.
Jayant Sawarkar’s illustrious career spanned over several decades, during which he showcased his remarkable talent in over 100 Marathi plays and portrayed more than 30 diverse characters in Hindi films. His demise has left the entire Marathi film fraternity in mourning.
Reports indicate that Sawarkar had been undergoing treatment for the past two weeks. Despite receiving medical care, his condition deteriorated over time, leading to his placement on a ventilator. However, unfortunately, he was unable to recover and passed away peacefully.
Born on May 3, 1936, in Guhagar, Jayant Sawarkar forayed into the entertainment industry at the young age of twenty. His exceptional performances garnered immense appreciation, and many of his plays became popular among audiences. Some noteworthy plays in his repertoire include Aparadh Meich Kela (Gole Master), Apurankank, Alibaba Chalis Chor, Aladdin Jaducha Diva, Aamhi Jagato Befam, and Ekach Pyala. Particularly, his portrayal of Taliram in the play Ekach Pyaala resonated deeply with the audience.
Apart from theater, Sawarkar showcased his versatility through appearances in soap operas, movies, and web series.
