Startups in the state of Kerala have stepped forward with innovative ideas, solutions, and products to transform Thiruvananthapuram into a smart city. The initiative was sparked by an invitation for expressions of interest from the startup community by Smart City Thiruvananthapuram Limited (SCTL), aimed at promoting sustainable development in the state capital.
The response has been encouraging, with 75 startups expressing their interest in collaborating with SCTL. This level of participation is significant and showcases the enthusiasm within the startup ecosystem. Currently, the evaluation and verification of the submitted ideas are underway and will be finalized by August. The implementation of the selected projects will commence within two months.
A senior SCTL official highlighted that they are not restricting the selection process to just one startup. Instead, multiple startups will be welcomed if they offer different ideas and innovative solutions for pressing issues such as waste management and parking solutions. The technical committee, which includes the Kerala Startup Mission, will evaluate and select the startups based on their proposals.
Participating startups can anticipate gaining recognition on a larger scale, as their ideas, products, and solutions that meet SCTL’s requirements will be showcased to a wide audience. Collaboration with SCTL opens doors to future partnerships and opportunities for startups to solidify their presence in the market.
During an online meeting between SCTL and the startups, as many as 25 startups registered under the Kerala Startup Mission presented their proposals. The focus of the proposed solutions was primarily on waste management and parking solutions, addressing critical issues of Thiruvananthapuram.
The integration of advanced technologies into the city will occur gradually and in phases. This approach allows for a steady and systematic implementation of innovative solutions. These initiatives will not only make Thiruvananthapuram smarter but will also contribute to a cleaner and more efficient urban environment.
By embracing the ideas and solutions offered by startups, Thiruvananthapuram can harness the power of innovation to tackle real-world challenges. The city is set to benefit from the energy and creativity of the startup community, as they work hand in hand with SCTL to shape a smarter and more sustainable future.
With the verification process still ongoing, excitement is building as the countdown begins for the selection and implementation of these groundbreaking projects. Thiruvananthapuram is on the cusp of a transformation that will redefine urban living and position it as a thriving smart city in the global landscape.
