Longding district administration in Arunachal Pradesh has ordered the temporary closure of schools in Kanubari sub-division due to an outbreak of conjunctivitis. In a circular issued by Longding Deputy Commissioner Bani Lego, it was stated that the closure is necessary to prevent the spread of the highly contagious eye infection.
Conjunctivitis, also known as pink eye, is caused by various viruses and is characterized by redness, itching, excessive tearing, and a gritty feeling in the eye. The disease can easily spread through direct or indirect contact with infected individuals, contaminated objects, or respiratory droplets.
To contain the outbreak, health authorities have recommended measures such as frequent hand washing, avoiding touching the eyes, maintaining personal hygiene, disinfecting surfaces, and isolating infected individuals. These precautions are crucial in breaking the chain of transmission and preventing further spread of the disease.
Longding DDSE Taje Jilen confirmed that the decision to close the schools was made based on reports from the Kanubari block education officer. Although the exact number of affected students is unknown, the closure of schools aims to protect the health and well-being of the students and prevent the further spread of conjunctivitis.
Meanwhile, there have been reports of suspected conjunctivitis outbreaks in several schools in the West Siang district as well. It is essential for the authorities to monitor the situation closely in order to prevent a wider outbreak and ensure the prompt treatment of affected individuals.
As the authorities continue to monitor the situation and take necessary actions, it is crucial for the community to cooperate and support their efforts. By working together, we can overcome this outbreak and ensure the health and well-being of everyone in the region.
