Rangers Strikers Rated and Ranked Ahead of New Season
Rangers boss Michael Beale has expressed his delight at the number of forwards available to him this season. After securing the services of Sam Lammers and Cyriel Dessers, along with the loan signing of Abdallah Sima from Brighton, Beale is confident in his team’s attacking prowess.
The challenge has been issued to the strikers to reach double figures in terms of goals this season, and with James Tavernier’s proficiency from penalties and free kicks, Rangers fans could be in for a goal fest at Ibrox.
Cyriel Dessers, the new No. 9, has had an impressive track record when it comes to finding the back of the net. Since becoming a regular starter at NAC Breda in 2016/17, he has consistently scored goals. He netted 22 goals in his first season in the Netherlands and continued to impress with 12 goals for Utrecht the following year. Despite a cruciate ligament injury in 2018/19, Dessers bounced back the next season, finishing as joint top scorer in the division with 15 goals for Heracles. His goalscoring form continued at Feyenoord, where he bagged 21 goals in the following season.
Sam Lammers, on the other hand, has had a more mixed track record. While he showed promise during his loan spell at Heerenveen, scoring 16 goals in 31 appearances, his subsequent moves to Atalanta and Frankfurt didn’t yield the same level of success. With just two goals in 18 appearances for Atalanta and two goals in 24 outings for Frankfurt, Lammers will be hoping for a fresh start at Rangers.
Abdallah Sima, primarily a winger, had an impressive first season up top for Slavia Prague, scoring 20 goals in 39 appearances along with 8 assists. His move to Brighton limited his playing time and resulted in fewer goals, but Rangers will be hoping he rediscovers his scoring touch from his Slavia days.
Kemar Roofe has proven himself to be a reliable goalscorer during his time at Rangers. Despite injury troubles, Roofe managed to find the net 18 times in 36 appearances during his first year at Ibrox. The following season saw him score 16 goals in 36 appearances, demonstrating his consistency in front of goal.
While Danilo is not yet a Rangers player, Beale is working towards securing his signature. Danilo has shown promise during his time at FC Twente and Ajax, where he scored 17 and 15 goals respectively. If signed, Rangers will be hoping he can continue his goalscoring form.
It’s not just the strikers and forwards who will be expected to contribute goals. James Tavernier has consistently delivered from penalties and free kicks, while players like Todd Cantwell and Ianis Hagi have the ability to chip in with goals as well.
