Sheffield United are showing interest in securing the services of Chelsea’s Alfie Gilchrist on a permanent deal. The 19-year-old defender, who currently captains Chelsea’s Under-21s, could potentially have the opportunity to play first-team football for a Premier League club next season. However, Gilchrist has also been presented with a new contract offer from Stamford Bridge.
As part of Mauricio Pochettino’s 30-man squad training in the United States, Gilchrist had the chance to showcase his skills. He even played the second half in a 5-0 victory over Wrexham, having been moved from the academy squad to the first-team on Monday. Aware of his potential, Chelsea is eager to secure the highly regarded defender to a new deal before arranging a suitable loan move for him.
The quality and value of the loan stint are crucial in Gilchrist’s development, as he aspires to gain experience in senior men’s football. Chelsea’s current intention is to find him a loan opportunity that aligns with his growth as a player. It is important to note that Gilchrist’s existing contract is set to expire in June 2024.
In addition to Gilchrist’s potential move, Chelsea is also planning to send midfielder Tino Anjorin out on loan for the upcoming season. The 21-year-old was recently seen at Portsmouth’s training ground, engaging in discussions with staff members. Despite a considerable interest from several clubs, Anjorin is yet to make a final decision regarding his destination.
