At least one more witness is scheduled to testify before the grand jury investigating former President Donald Trump’s attempts to overturn the 2020 election, according to sources familiar with the matter. The witness, whose identity has not been revealed, is expected to appear on Thursday.

This comes after Trump aide Will Russell had previously testified before the grand jury, making Thursday his return appearance. Russell, a former special assistant to the president and Deputy Director of Advance in the Trump White House, later moved to Florida to work as an aide to Trump after he left office.

Special counsel Jack Smith recently informed Trump that he is a target in the election probe, potentially signaling another indictment against the former president. As previously reported, several witnesses have already testified before the grand jury in recent weeks, including Jared Kushner, Trump’s son-in-law and former White House senior adviser.

Sources have revealed that these witnesses were specifically questioned about Trump’s state of mind regarding the events of January 6 and whether he was aware of and acknowledged his electoral loss. Trump, for his part, has consistently denied any wrongdoing and denounced Smith’s investigation as a politically motivated witch hunt.

The investigation aims to shed light on the events leading up to and following the Capitol riot on January 6, during which a violent mob stormed the U.S. Capitol building in an attempt to overturn the certification of Joe Biden’s victory in the 2020 presidential election.

As the grand jury continues its work, it remains to be seen what new developments may emerge and how they may shape the ongoing investigation into Trump’s efforts to challenge the election results. The possibility of another indictment against the former president adds yet more uncertainty to an already complex and politically charged situation. The grand jury’s work is expected to proceed diligently as it seeks to uncover the truth surrounding the events of January 6 and hold those responsible accountable for their actions.
