Bandipora’s Veven village in north Kashmir’s Bandipora district is facing numerous challenges, according to local residents. The absence of essential facilities, ranging from education to healthcare to transportation, has left the villagers struggling to meet their basic needs. Situated 20 kilometers away from the district headquarters, the villagers feel neglected and are disappointed by the lack of attention from officials.

One of the prominent issues faced by the residents is the poor condition of the motorable road that connects the village. Despite being constructed in 2015, no repairs have been made since then. The locals are burdened by the high charges imposed by Sumo services that operate on this dilapidated road. The unfair fare of 130 rupees from Veven village to Bandipora town, as compared to the bus service fare of only 70 rupees from Bandipora to Srinagar, is a significant disparity that affects the villagers.

The healthcare situation in Veven village is alarmingly inadequate, with only one health center available to provide medical assistance. Unfortunately, this facility is marred by the absence of a visiting health professional, leaving the villagers without reliable access to crucial medical care.

Education is also a concern for the residents, as the presence of teachers is limited. The teachers are only available three days a week, hindering the academic progress of students. This lack of consistent education and support further adds to the challenges faced by the village.

In response to these issues, Chief Medical Officer (CMO) Rafi Ahmad Salati has assured that he will investigate the matter and take appropriate action. Chief Education Officer (CEO) Mohd Amin Beigh has also promised to gather details from the Zonal Education Officer (ZEO) regarding the absence of teachers and ensure strict action against those responsible.

The Executive Engineer PMGSY has acknowledged that initial earthwork for the road has been completed. However, recent heavy rainfall triggered landslides, further damaging the road. The engineer has assured the villagers that repairing the Veven road is a top priority and will be promptly addressed.

The challenges faced by Veven village in Bandipora are a cause for concern. The lack of essential facilities and infrastructure, along with inadequate healthcare and education services, are impacting the daily lives of the villagers. It is essential for the authorities to address these issues promptly and provide the necessary support to improve the living conditions and well-being of the residents.
