The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has formed a committee of road safety experts to conduct a safety inspection of the Bengaluru-Mysuru expressway in Karnataka, according to an official statement. The committee is currently on site and is expected to complete its study by July 20th. The committee will then submit its report within 10 days after concluding the site visit.
The decision to set up the committee comes in the wake of several accidents along the expressway since its opening in March, causing concerns about the safety of commuters. The NHAI aims to ensure that the corridor continues to serve the people of Karnataka by promoting safe travel.
The Bengaluru-Mysuru expressway spans 118 kilometers and includes a portion of NH-275. The NHAI has utilized state-of-the-art technologies in the construction of the highway, which has contributed to boosting commerce and acting as a catalyst for the socio-economic development of the region.
The expressway has reduced travel time between Bengaluru and Mysuru by almost half, now taking only 75 minutes. It reflects India’s rapidly transforming road infrastructure and the NHAI’s commitment to creating a world-class national highway network.
The corridor includes four rail overbridges, nine major bridges, 40 minor bridges, and 89 underpasses and overpasses. Additionally, six bypasses have been constructed at towns along the route to resolve traffic congestion issues.
Furthermore, the access-controlled highway provides inter-state connectivity between Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, and Kerala, thereby decongesting cities like Coorg, Srirangapatna, Wayanad, and Ooty.
By setting up the committee of road safety experts, the NHAI aims to address the concerns related to the Bengaluru-Mysuru expressway and enhance the overall safety standards of the corridor.
