Ohio State Football Player’s Mother Fatally Shot in Chicago Drive-By

In a tragic incident, the mother of Ohio State Football player Carnell Tate was shot and killed during a drive-by shooting in Chicago. The victim has been identified as Ashley Griggs, who was with a group of people gathered after a Marshall High School reunion.

The shooting took place in the early hours of Sunday morning at around 2 a.m. in the 4000 block of West Washington Boulevard. Someone opened fire from inside a passing car, targeting the group and hitting Griggs multiple times. She was rushed to the hospital but sadly succumbed to her injuries.

The news of Griggs’ death comes amidst a concerning spike in gun violence in Chicago. Over the weekend, at least 37 people were shot, three of whom died. The city has witnessed a total of 317 homicides from January 1 to July 17, 2023, according to the Chicag0 Sun-Times homicide database.

This incident has once again reignited the debate surrounding gun violence and the need for stricter gun control measures. Many are calling on authorities to take immediate action to curb the rising tide of shootings and ensure the safety of Chicago residents.

Carnell Tate, the son of Ashley Griggs, is a prominent member of the Ohio State Football team. His mother’s untimely demise has sent shockwaves through the Ohio State community and the world of sports. The team, along with their coach and university officials, has expressed their condolences and offered support to Tate during this difficult time.

While investigations are still ongoing, it is crucial to highlight the devastating impact of gun violence on communities and families. Incidents like these remind us of the urgent need for comprehensive efforts to address the root causes of violence and create safer environments for everyone.

The loss of Ashley Griggs is a painful reminder that behind every tragic statistic, there are real people with families and dreams cut short by senseless acts of violence. It is our collective responsibility to work together and strive for a future where no mother has to fear for her life on the streets of any city.
