Over Half of Britons Would Vote to Rejoin EU, Survey Reveals

According to a recent YouGov poll, the majority of Britons would vote to rejoin the European Union (EU), with more than 60 percent viewing Brexit as a failure rather than a success. The poll, conducted last week and involving 2,151 adults, found that 51 percent would choose to rejoin, while 32 percent would stand by the decision to leave the bloc.

Notably, a significant 63 percent of those surveyed expressed their belief that Brexit has been more of a failure than a success, with just 12 percent perceiving it as a success and 18 percent viewing it as neutral. Furthermore, an overwhelming 70 percent expressed dissatisfaction with the government’s handling of the Brexit process.

This poll comes in the wake of Nigel Farage, the former leader of the Brexit Party and a prominent figure in the Leave campaign, labeling Brexit as a failure. In an interview on Newsnight, Farage admitted that the UK has not experienced economic benefits from Brexit and accused government policies of deterring business investments in the country. When confronted with polling data suggesting growing regrets among Leave voters, Farage dismissed the notion.

Contrary to Farage’s assertion, the YouGov survey reflects a shift in opinion among some Leave voters. The results show that 18 percent of those who voted to Leave in 2016 would now choose to Remain if a second EU referendum were held today. However, a significant majority of 73 percent maintain their stance on leaving the EU.

In a notable development, the poll indicates that 57 percent of all Britons polled currently believe that the country made the wrong decision by voting for Brexit in 2016. This represents the highest percentage recorded by YouGov to date. In contrast, 32 percent still stand by the decision as the right one. It is worth mentioning that 19 percent of Leave voters now admit that it was the wrong decision.

The findings of this survey shed light on the prevailing sentiments in Britain regarding Brexit. With a majority expressing the desire to rejoin the EU and a significant number viewing Brexit as a failure, these poll results underscore the ongoing debate and division surrounding the country’s departure from the bloc.

It remains to be seen how these shifting opinions will impact future political developments and discussions surrounding Brexit. As the nation reflects on its decision, the dynamics surrounding EU membership continue to evolve, highlighting the need for dialogue and informed decision-making moving forward.
