India Contributes USD 1,000,000 to Promote Hindi Language at United Nations

India has made a generous contribution of USD 1,000,000 to the United Nations in a bid to promote the use of the Hindi language within the global organization. The Permanent Representative of India to the UN, Ruchira Kamboj, recently handed over a check to Melissa Fleming, the Under Secretary General of the United Nations Department of Global Communications.

The donation is aimed at expanding the usage of the Hindi language within the United Nations, breaking down barriers and enhancing public outreach. This initiative represents a step towards fostering inclusive dialogue and understanding.

Ambassador Kamboj expressed appreciation for the efforts of the United Nations to mainstream and consolidate news and multimedia content in Hindi. These efforts have been well-received in India and in countries with a Hindi-speaking population. The Government of India is committed to continuing its support for the Hindi language within the United Nations for this purpose, and is pleased to partner with the organization.

The Hindi@UN project was launched in collaboration with the UN Department of Public Information in 2018. Its main objective is to enhance public outreach in Hindi and raise awareness about global issues among millions of Hindi-speaking people worldwide. The project utilizes various platforms, including the UN News website, Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, and a weekly UN News-Hindi audio bulletin.

The social media accounts associated with UN Hindi have gained significant popularity, with 50,000 followers on Twitter, 29,000 on Instagram, and 15,000 on Facebook. These accounts publish nearly 1000 posts every year, and the Hindi UN News website receives around 1.3 million annual impressions, consistently ranking in the top ten in internet search engines.

India’s contribution to promote the Hindi language at the United Nations highlights its commitment to linguistic inclusivity and global cooperation. By supporting the dissemination of news and content in Hindi, India aims to bridge the language gap and ensure greater accessibility for Hindi speakers.

In conclusion, India’s donation of USD 1,000,000 to promote the Hindi language at the United Nations demonstrates its dedication to fostering dialogue and understanding. Through the Hindi@UN project, the United Nations aims to reach millions of Hindi speakers worldwide, raising awareness about global issues and promoting linguistic inclusivity. With its ongoing support, India continues to play an essential role in enhancing the usage of the Hindi language within the United Nations.
