Meghalaya Government Forms 4-Member Education Commission to Bring Reforms in Education Sector

In a significant move towards improving the quality of education in Meghalaya, the state government has established a four-member Education Commission. The commission’s primary objective is to recommend reforms and policy changes that would promote excellence in schools, colleges, and higher education institutions across the state.

The Education Commission will be headed by Sherwin May Sungoh, who is currently the head of the Education department at the North Eastern Hill University. Sungoh’s extensive experience in the field makes him a suitable candidate for leading the commission and spearheading the much-needed reforms.

Joining Sungoh on the commission are three other distinguished members. David Reid Syiemlieh, former chairman of the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC), brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise to the table. Tony TC Marak, former executive chairman of the Meghalaya Board of School Education (MBOSE), is well-versed in the state’s education system. Lastly, Ambrose Ch Marak, the education secretary, will serve as the member secretary of the commission.

The formation of the Education Commission signifies the government’s commitment to raising educational standards in Meghalaya. With the members’ collective experience and expertise, the commission is expected to propose policy changes and reforms that will revolutionize the education sector in the state.

The commission’s recommendations will focus on promoting quality education at all levels, including primary, secondary, and tertiary education. It will address the challenges faced by schools, colleges, and technical institutions and suggest measures to enhance their effectiveness. By identifying areas for improvement and proposing targeted policies, the commission aims to create a robust and inclusive education system in Meghalaya.

Additionally, the commission will look into the implementation of innovative teaching methods, technology integration, and capacity building for educators. These measures will help equip students with the skills and knowledge they need to excel in an evolving global landscape. The commission will also examine the assimilation of vocational training programs to bridge the gap between education and employability.

The state government’s decision to establish the Education Commission is a step in the right direction for the future of education in Meghalaya. It reflects their recognition of the importance of providing quality education and creating a conducive learning environment for students. With the commission’s recommendations, the government will have a clear roadmap to bring about meaningful changes and ensure that students receive the best possible education.

In conclusion, the formation of the four-member Education Commission marks a significant milestone in Meghalaya’s education sector. Led by Sherwin May Sungoh, the commission comprises individuals with extensive knowledge and expertise in the field. Their recommendations and policy changes are expected to revolutionize education and raise the bar of excellence in the state. This initiative by the government showcases their commitment to providing quality education and empowering students for a brighter future.
