B Tech Grad Arrested for Selling Morphed Pictures of Women Online

Chennai Police has apprehended a 22-year-old B Tech-IT graduate from Erode on charges of selling morphed pictures and videos of women online. The accused, identified as N M Arya from Sathyamangalam, allegedly captured photos and videos of unsuspecting women in public places and then morphed them into explicit content, which he sold through Telegram groups.

The arrest came after the south zone cyber crime police station received a complaint from a resident of Adambakkam, who discovered that her picture had been taken during shopping and later shared online in a manipulated form. Inspector D Kavitha led a team to investigate the matter and gather information, leading them to track down Arya.

Investigations have revealed that Arya would secretly take photos and videos of women while they were visiting supermarkets, malls, and commercial centers. He then modified the images to create explicit content and distributed them to interested buyers through the Telegram app in Zip file format.

Upon searching Arya’s premises, the police recovered a 2 TB hard disk containing numerous pictures of women, including the morphed images. The accused was presented before a magistrate and subsequently remanded to judicial custody.

Following this incident, the Chennai Police has initiated a widespread operation to identify and apprehend individuals involved in similar activities within the city and its surroundings.

In conclusion, the arrest of the B Tech-IT graduate highlights the severe breach of privacy that women face in public spaces. The incident serves as a stark reminder of the need for stricter surveillance and vigilance to protect individuals from such insidious acts. It is crucial for law enforcement agencies, as well as the general public, to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to prevent further misuse of personal information and the exploitation of vulnerable individuals.
