Japan Rugby Team Makes Changes for Match Against All Blacks XV

Japan head coach Jamie Joseph has announced several changes to the Brave Blossoms squad for their upcoming non-test match against the All Blacks XV. The match comes as part of Japan’s preparations for the Rugby World Cup in France and follows their recent defeat to the All Blacks XV.

In an effort to improve the team’s performance, Joseph has made seven changes to the starting lineup. Notably, regular 2019 World Cup starters Shota Horie, Keita Inagaki, and Gu Ji Won have been included in the front row. Joseph believes that their experience will provide a significant boost to the team’s communication on the field.

Michael Leitch has been replaced by Jack Cornelsen and Faulua Makisi at No. 8 has been replaced by Kazuki Himeno, who will also serve as captain for the match. Additionally, flyhalf Lee Seung Sin will take over from Rikiya Matsuda, and Ryoto Nakamura will replace Shogo Nakano at inside center.

Reflecting on the previous match against the All Blacks XV, Joseph pointed out areas where the team struggled, particularly in their attack. He described the team as being naive and making avoidable mistakes. However, both Joseph and Cornelsen emphasized that the team has had a solid week of preparation and is ready to bounce back stronger.

While many familiar faces will be starting the match, 2019 World Cup scrumhalf Yutaka Nagare will come off the bench. Nagare expressed his determination to make a positive impact and leave a lasting impression during the match, especially since he spent three years in the Kumamoto area during high school.

The match against the All Blacks XV holds special significance for Nagare, as he hopes to bring some energy and positivity to the Kyushu region, which has faced various natural disasters in recent years. Despite acknowledging that rugby alone cannot solve all the challenges faced by the region, Nagare believes that the match can provide a much-needed boost.

The Japan Rugby Team is eager to showcase their growth and maturity in front of those who have supported them, and they are committed to delivering a strong performance. As they continue their preparations for the Rugby World Cup, this match against the All Blacks XV serves as an opportunity for the Brave Blossoms to learn from their mistakes and further strengthen their game.

The match between Japan and the All Blacks XV will take place at Kumamoto’s Egao Kenko Stadium on Saturday. Rugby fans and supporters alike will be eagerly watching to see how the Brave Blossoms rebound from their previous defeat and demonstrate their determination to succeed in the upcoming World Cup.
