Government Initiates Efforts to Improve Mobile Connectivity in Remote Villages: Anurag Thakur

The Indian government has taken significant steps towards improving mobile connectivity in remote villages, according to Union Information and Broadcasting Minister Anurag Thakur. During his visit to border villages in the Indo-China border region, Thakur interacted with local villagers and assured them of better digital and road connectivity, improved tourism and sports infrastructure, and increased access to clean water through the Jal Jeewan Mission.

To ensure that residents of these remote villages have access to mobile connectivity, the government has proposed the distribution of 1.5 lakh free Doordarshan DTH connections in villages on the Indo-China border. This move will not only enhance communication but also provide access to information and entertainment in these far-flung areas.

Thakur’s visit to Ladakh also served as an opportunity to assess the reach and impact of various government schemes and projects in remote border villages. Through close interaction with local villagers and administrative officials, he gained firsthand understanding of the challenges faced by the residents and discussed potential solutions.

The government’s commitment to the development of border villages is evident through the various initiatives undertaken. Thakur highlighted the progress made in Ladakh since its formation as a Union Territory, including direct funding, 24-hour electricity, the installation of solar plants, and increased livelihood opportunities. He also emphasized that every household in the remote Changthang region now has access to water supply through the Jal Jeevan Mission.

Looking ahead, Thakur unveiled plans to enhance the development of Changthang and the surrounding villages. The initiatives include upgrading infrastructure to improve connectivity and promoting eco-tourism to leverage the region’s natural beauty. The government will provide necessary support and resources to implement these plans effectively, fostering sustainable development and increasing tourism in the area.

Thakur’s visit also encompassed interactions with students at Puga Residential School, where he participated in a volleyball exhibition match and distributed sports equipment. Additionally, he engaged with ITBP jawans (border security personnel) and addressed their concerns regarding road connectivity, telecom, and other issues. Thakur emphasized the government’s ongoing efforts to provide the necessary facilities and support to the forces posted at the border.

The government’s focus on improving mobile connectivity and overall infrastructure in remote villages is expected to significantly impact the lives of residents in these areas. By bridging the digital divide and fostering development, the government aims to create vibrant and self-reliant villages that contribute to the nation’s progress and prosperity.

Overall, the government’s initiatives reflect its commitment to addressing the unique challenges faced by residents in remote border villages. Through enhanced connectivity, improved infrastructure, and greater access to essential services, the lives of these communities are expected to be positively transformed.
