UP News: Rivers Swell and Flood Threats Loom Large Over Uttar Pradesh

The recent heavy rainfall in Uttar Pradesh (UP) has wreaked havoc, causing major rivers in the state to swell and exceed the danger mark. As a result, several villages in Saharanpur and Mathura districts of West UP are now marooned and facing the threat of flooding.

In response to the dire situation, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath is scheduled to visit Saharanpur district on Friday. His visit aims to assess the flood relief efforts and address the needs of the affected population. Meanwhile, in Lucknow, the municipal corporation has taken proactive measures by demolishing several old and dilapidated houses to prevent any potential harm to the residents.

Saharanpur has been particularly affected by the heavy rainfall, with the water from the Dhamola and Paondhoi dams reaching the city areas. This has resulted in approximately 50,000 people being affected by the flooding. To ensure their safety, the district administration has relocated 2,000 individuals to secure locations. Unfortunately, 45 villages in Saharanpur remain completely marooned.

The situation in Mathura is also concerning, as the water level of the Yamuna river continues to rise at a rate of two centimeters per hour. Similarly, in Kanpur, the Ganga river has crossed the danger mark, leading the administration to evacuate the Katri locality and relocate its residents to flood relief camps. Kanpur has also established 35 flood posts to offer assistance to those affected. Additionally, Moradabad district has faced disruptions in train services due to damages to the rail tracks caused by the inclement weather.

Regrettably, there seems to be no respite in sight from the heavy rains, as the weather office predicts more downpours until Sunday. Their alert for heavy rains extends to 31 districts in UP, with Azamgarh, Mau, Balia, Deoria, Gorakhpur, and Basti among the areas most likely to be affected. According to the meteorological office, most regions of UP have been experiencing above-average rainfall daily. On Thursday alone, UP recorded 2.1 mm above the average rainfall, bringing the total to 13.20 mm.

In light of ongoing weather conditions, it is crucial for the residents of these affected districts to stay vigilant and follow any instructions or evacuation orders issued by the authorities. The government has been working tirelessly to provide relief and support to the affected population. However, it is important for individuals and communities to take necessary precautions to ensure their safety during this challenging time.

By providing balanced and comprehensive coverage, we aim to keep our readers informed about the current situation in UP. We will continue to monitor developments and provide updates as the situation unfolds. Stay tuned for more information on the flood situation in Uttar Pradesh.
