Kentucky Man Arrested with 40 Skulls in His Apartment Linked to Harvard Medical School Human Remains Theft Case

In a shocking turn of events, a Kentucky man has been arrested in connection with a case tied to the theft of human remains from Harvard Medical School. The man, identified as William Nott, was apprehended after an investigation into the illegal trafficking of cadaver parts and organs donated to the medical school’s Anatomical Gift Program for teaching purposes.

The investigation, which initially led to the arrest of Cedric Lodge, the former manager of the medical school morgue, exposed a large-scale operation involving the diversion and sale of donated remains. Lodge is currently facing charges of conspiracy and interstate transport of stolen goods.

According to court records, Lodge allegedly diverted the donated organs and cadaver parts for years, taking them to his home before selling them to individuals in other states. One of the buyers implicated in the case is Jeremy Pauley, who is also facing criminal charges in connection with the illegal trade.

The arrest of William Nott has shed further light on the extent of the operation. An FBI affidavit revealed that Nott, who referred to himself on Facebook as William Burke, allegedly engaged in conversations with Pauley about the sale and shipment of human remains. It is worth noting that William Burke was the name of a notorious serial killer from the 19th century who sold his victims’ bodies to a university lecturer in anatomy.

When federal authorities searched Nott’s apartment, they made a shocking discovery. They found approximately 40 human skulls, along with spinal cords, femurs, and hip bones. The skulls were even arranged as decorations around the furniture, with one even adorned with a head scarf. Disturbingly, another skull was found on the mattress where Nott slept.

In addition to the human remains, authorities also seized an AK-47 rifle, fully loaded magazines, inert grenades, and body armor plates from Nott’s residence. It is important to note that Nott had previously been convicted for possessing an unregistered destructive device and a firearm while being an unlawful user of marijuana.

During his initial appearance in court, Nott was charged with possession of a firearm by a prohibited person and was ordered to be detained until his arraignment on August 4th. It is unclear at this time if he will face any specific charges related to the skulls found in his apartment.

The case has left the medical community and Harvard University in shock. In a joint statement, George Q. Daley, the dean of the Faculty of Medicine, and Edward M. Hundert, the dean for Medical Education, expressed their dismay at the alleged betrayal that occurred within their institution. They emphasized that the reported incidents were a betrayal of the donors who had generously willed their bodies to Harvard for medical education and research.

While investigators believe that Cedric Lodge acted alone without the knowledge or cooperation of anyone else at Harvard or Harvard Medical School, the university is now working to determine which donors may have been affected by the illegal trafficking of remains.

The disturbing revelations from this case serve as a stark reminder of the importance of ensuring the proper handling and respectful treatment of donated remains. Authorities are continuing their investigation into this shocking and abhorrent matter, with the hope of bringing justice to those affected and preventing similar incidents in the future.

It is imperative that institutions prioritize the security and ethical handling of human remains, thereby upholding the trust placed in them by donors and maintaining the integrity of medical education and research.
