Huw Edwards, the renowned BBC News anchor, has had his last planned TV appearance cancelled at the last minute due to allegations made against him. Edwards, 61, has been accused by his wife Vicky Flind of paying for explicit pictures from a young person, among other allegations. Flind released a statement stating that Edwards is suffering from serious mental health issues and is currently receiving in-patient hospital care.

The allegations against Edwards came to light on Wednesday evening when the BBC received claims of a different nature concerning the presenter, following previous claims made in May. Edwards had been scheduled to appear on The One Show the next day, but he was noticeably absent. In his place, fellow BBC Proms host Katya Adler discussed the annual classical music event with Petroc Trelawny.

The Metropolitan Police confirmed that no criminal offense has been committed by Edwards and no specific information or details about further allegations have been provided to them. The Sun, which initially published the allegations, stated that it has no plans to release any further allegations and will cooperate with the BBC’s internal investigation.

The BBC has confirmed that it will continue its fact-finding investigations into Edwards. BBC Newsnight also reported new claims from a current and former BBC worker who both stated they had received inappropriate messages from Edwards, some of which were sent late at night and signed off with kisses. The programme highlighted a reluctance among junior staff to complain about the conduct of high-profile colleagues, fearing it could negatively impact their careers.

Following the statement from Edwards’s family, BBC Director-General Tim Davie emphasized the importance of continuing the internal investigation while following due process. He also stressed the corporation’s duty of care to all those involved.

Several broadcasters, including Dan Walker, Jon Sopel, and Alistair Campbell, have expressed concern for Edwards, with Piers Morgan acknowledging the seriousness of the situation on his TalkTV programme. Morgan stated that regardless of the investigation’s outcome, it is crucial to consider the impact on Edwards, his family, and his mental health.

The One Show, which airs on BBC iPlayer, is awaiting an official statement from the BBC regarding Edwards’s absence. The BBC has been contacted for comment on the matter.

In conclusion, Huw Edwards’s last planned TV appearance on The One Show was cancelled at the last minute following allegations made against him by his wife. The BBC is conducting an internal investigation into the matter, and Edwards is currently receiving in-patient hospital care for his mental health issues.
