Joint Patrol Conducted by Security Forces in Rameswaram, Tamil Nadu, to Combat Illegal Activities

Rameswaram, Tamil Nadu: In a bid to curb the rising wave of illegal activities, including smuggling, in the Gulf of Mannar and Palkbay seas between Sri Lanka and India, security forces conducted a joint patrol on the uninhabited islands on Tuesday.

The Coastal Security Group Police, Mandapam confirmed that the joint patrolling operation was aimed at preventing illegal activities in the region. The Indian Navy, Indian Coast Guard, Customs, Coastal Security Group Police, and Forest Department have been working in tandem to monitor and carry out patrols.

The joint patrolling and surveillance work, which covered 21 uninhabited islands in the Gulf of Mannar from Pampan to Kanyakumari, was conducted by the Coastal Security Group Police, Forest Department, and Indian Coast Guard. The operation was divided into two teams, with one team each from Mandapam and Keelakarai.

The Mandapam team, consisting of five Coastal Security Group Police, five Forest Department officials, and two Indian Coast Guard personnel, participated in the patrol of Krusat Island and Singli Island. Similarly, the Keelakarai team, comprising five Coastal Security Group Police, three Forest Department officials, and two Indian Coast Guard personnel, were involved in patrolling and surveillance work in Anaipar and Valmunai Island.

The Gulf of Mannar and Palkbay seas have been hotspots for illegal activities, with smuggling being a major concern. By conducting these joint patrols and surveillance operations, security forces aim to deter any attempts to engage in illegal activities in these waters.

The authorities have made it clear that they remain committed to maintaining the security and integrity of the region. Their efforts involve cooperation between various agencies, highlighting the seriousness with which they address the issue. The joint patrols will play a crucial role in deterring offenders and ensuring the safety of these waters.

Illegal activities not only pose a threat to the security of the nation but also harm the marine ecosystem. By cracking down on smuggling and other illegal activities, security forces are also safeguarding the region’s rich biodiversity.

The joint patrol operation is part of an ongoing effort to address the persistent challenge of illegal activities in the Gulf of Mannar and Palkbay seas. The security forces will continue to monitor and conduct regular patrols to ensure the safety and security of these waters, promoting peace and stability in the region.

The implementation of these joint patrols demonstrates the commitment of the Indian authorities towards maintaining law and order, protecting national interests, and preserving the natural resources in this ecologically sensitive area.
