He managed to take two crucial wickets, dominating the game with his skills and expertise. After lunch, West Indies managed to score 68/4, with Alick Athanaze continuing his batting at 13*.
Opting to bat first, West Indies faced an early setback as they lost a wicket in the form of Tagenarine Chanderpau, who scored 12 runs off 44 balls. Ashwin utilized the dry wicket to his advantage and didn’t take long to claim his second wicket. In the 16.3 overs he played, Ashwin dismissed WI captain Kraigg Brathwaite, who had scored 20 runs off 46 balls.
West Indies reached the 50-run mark in 21 overs, struggling against India’s experienced bowling lineup. Shardul Thakur also contributed to India’s success by taking the wicket of Raymon Reifer at 2 runs. West Indies batsmen seemed to find it difficult to counter the Indian bowlers’ attack.
In the first session’s closing moments, India managed to pick up another wicket when Jermaine Blackwood was caught by Mohammed Siraj off Ravindra Jadeja’s bowling. Blackwood had scored 14 runs off 34 balls.
