192 Pakistani Students Awarded Scholarships to European Universities
ISLAMABAD – In a significant achievement for Pakistani students, a record-breaking 192 students from the country have been granted scholarships to pursue their higher education in European universities. The scholarships were awarded under the prestigious Erasmus Mundus Joint Master scholarships program, which is an initiative by the European Union (EU). Of the total recipients, 103 are men and 89 are women.
The announcement was made during a pre-departure event organized in collaboration with the Higher Education Commission (HEC). The event aimed to prepare the scholarship holders for their educational journey in Europe and provide them with a unique opportunity to network with their peers and Erasmus+ Alumni.
Expressing his delight, EU Chargé d’Affaires a.i., Thomas Seiler, congratulated the successful students and highlighted the significance of the Erasmus+ program in fostering educational and cultural exchanges. Seiler also emphasized how exposure to European universities will contribute to the development of Pakistan. Initially launched in 1987 for exchanges within Europe, the program expanded beyond Europe in 2004. Dr. Shaista Sohail, Executive Director of the Higher Education Commission, expressed her enthusiasm for the success of Pakistani students and emphasized the importance of international collaboration in driving academic growth. Representatives from EU Member States and members of the Erasmus+ Alumni Association also attended the event, sharing their experiences and insights.
