Happinet Sets Release Dates for Second Season of Malevolent Spirits: Mononogatari Anime Blu-ray
Tokyo-based distributor Happinet has recently announced the release dates for the second season of the popular anime series Malevolent Spirits: Mononogatari. Following the success of the first season, which premiered earlier this year, the home video releases of the second season will also be handled by Happinet.
The original winter 2023 anime adaptation of Malevolent Spirits: Mononogatari from Onigunsou received widespread acclaim and gathered a dedicated fan base. In response to the overwhelming demand, Happinet planned a two-volume release for the series on Blu-ray. The first volume was released on April 5th, 2023, and the second volume on June 2nd, 2023, both priced at 18,000 yen each.
With the second cour of the series set to commence this summer, Happinet has now revealed that the release plan for the home videos will follow the same format and design. Fans can look forward to the release of the Blu-ray volumes for the second season on October 4th, 2023, and December 6th, 2023, with the same price point as the first season.
The creative team behind Malevolent Spirits: Mononogatari is led by Ryuichi Kimura as the chief director, with Takahiro Okawa directing based on the series composition by Keiichiro Ochi. Shiori Fujisawa is responsible for the character designs, while BN Pictures handles the animation production.
The Japanese cast includes notable voice actors such as Chikahiro Kobayashi, Yuki Takada, and Miyuki Sawashiro. The manga adaptation of the series, created by Onigunsou and first published in 2014, has thirteen volumes to date. English-speaking fans can enjoy the series as well, as Seven Seas Entertainment will be releasing the manga in English.
Malevolent Spirits: Mononogatari revolves around a world inhabited by tsukumogami, which are spirits that reside within aged objects. The protagonist, Hyōma Kunato, develops a deep aversion towards tsukumogami after a tragic incident involving them. However, his perspective begins to shift when he meets Botan Nagatsuki, a girl who loves and lives with tsukumogami as if they were family.
