Community Café Raises Over £400 for Defibrillator Fund

In Wonston Parish, the local community has come together to raise funds for a vital cause—the installation and maintenance of defibrillators. The Wonston Defibrillator Fund, which was established in 2016, aims to ensure that defibrillators are placed strategically across the parish, accessible to all who may need them in times of emergency.

Maintaining these life-saving machines is crucial, and it is the volunteers who ensure that the defibrillators remain in excellent working condition. Regular replacements of electrode pads and batteries are necessary to guarantee their effectiveness. The electrode pads need to be replaced every two years, at a cost of £260, while the batteries require replacement every four years, amounting to £1,000.

To support the ongoing maintenance of the five defibrillators in the parish, the Wonston Community Café stepped in and made a significant contribution. During the June café event, the café managed to raise an impressive £425. The proceeds from the event will go directly towards covering the costs associated with ensuring these life-saving devices are always ready for use.

Rob Parker, founder of the Defibrillator Fund, expressed gratitude for the generosity of Wonston Community Café. He stated, We are really grateful that our fabulous Wonston Community Café are offering us the proceeds of today’s cafe towards these ongoing costs.

The monthly Wonston Community Café takes place at the Victoria Hall in Sutton Scotney. The café serves delicious cakes, coffee, and tea, with all proceeds going towards various local charitable causes. The café is staffed entirely by dedicated volunteers who are committed to making a positive difference in the community.

In addition to supporting the defibrillator fund, the café also raises funds for the upkeep of the Victoria Hall. On Wednesday, June 19, the café will be hosting another event to contribute towards the maintenance of this important community space. Unfortunately, there will be no café in August, but it will resume its operations on September 20.

The Wonston Community Café is a shining example of how a small community can come together to make a big impact. By providing a space for people to enjoy delicious treats while contributing to important causes, the café has become a hub for community spirit and generosity.
