The Yamuna River in Delhi has crossed the danger mark, causing floods in low-lying areas and leading to the evacuation of thousands of people living in floodplains. Heavy rains in northern states and the release of water from the Hathnikund Barrage in Haryana have caused the water level in the river to rise significantly above the danger level. The water level is expected to continue rising in the coming hours.

The low-lying areas along the Yamuna, which are prone to flooding, are home to around 41,000 people. Rescue teams from six districts in Delhi are working together to evacuate people and provide them with temporary shelter in schools, community centers, night shelters, and vacant plots and buildings.

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal held an emergency meeting to discuss the situation and assured the public that Delhi is not likely to experience severe flooding. The possibility of flooding depends on the rainfall in Delhi and the release of water from the Hathnikund Barrage. The barrage has already released a significant amount of water, reducing the risk of a flood-like situation.

Many people in the affected areas have already left their homes and sought refuge wherever they could. One group of around 1,000 people, including vegetable growers and daily wage workers, gathered under a flyover in east Delhi with their belongings. The water level rose rapidly, forcing them to abandon their homes and leave behind essential items.

In the past, Delhi has faced severe floods, but measures have been taken to prevent widespread inundation. The construction of the Mukarba Chowk bypass road has acted as a barrier to minimize the impact of floodwaters.

Officials have marked the locations of all individuals living in flood-prone areas to ensure their safe relocation. The revenue department has started public announcements to warn people, and rescue and relief operations are in full swing. Motorboats, diving teams, and medical teams have been deployed to rescue and assist affected individuals.

Due to heavy rainfall in northern India and the continuous release of water from the Hathnikund Barrage, the water level in the Yamuna River is rising rapidly. The situation in the floodplains is alarming, and district magistrates have been instructed to remain on alert. Necessary arrangements are being made to provide shelter and food for those affected.

In conclusion, the Yamuna River crossing the danger mark has led to floods in Delhi’s low-lying areas. Thousands of people have been evacuated, and efforts are underway to provide them with temporary shelter and necessary support. The situation is being closely monitored, and Delhi authorities are taking steps to mitigate the impact of the flooding.
