Australian rock band Powderfinger is celebrating the 20th anniversary of their fifth studio album, Vulture Street, by reissuing it on vinyl. This remastered version will be widely available for the first time in two decades. In addition to the vinyl reissue, the band will also release deluxe 3LP and 3CD editions of the album. These deluxe editions will include recordings from the band’s Live on Vulture Street tour, which have never been available on vinyl until now.
The members of Powderfinger expressed their excitement about the reissue in a statement, describing Vulture Street as a return to their rock ‘n roll roots. They revealed that after months of touring around the world and performing on bigger stages, they were starting to feel the effects on their performances. Fans can now pre-order the deluxe vinyl packages, with an expected arrival date of Friday, August 25th.
Guitarist Darren Middleton also shared his reflections on the upcoming reissue, saying, Where does the time go? I still remember plugging in, cranking the volume, and all of us recording the beds to these songs in the same studio room.
Vulture Street was originally released in July 2003 and featured popular hits like (Baby I’ve Got You) On My Mind and Sunsets. The album spent an impressive 47 weeks on the ARIA Australian Albums chart, peaking at number one. Powderfinger received four trophies at the 2003 ARIA Awards for their work on Vulture Street, including Album of the Year, Best Group, and Best Rock Album.
Following the success of Vulture Street, Powderfinger released two more studio albums: Dream Days at the Hotel Existence in 2007 and Golden Rule in 2009. The band decided to part ways in 2010 but reunited in May 2020 for a one-off YouTube livestream event called One Night Lonely. All proceeds from the event went to charity organizations Beyond Blue and Support Act. Later that year, the band released the compilation album Unreleased (1998-2010), which featured 10 previously unreleased tracks.
Powderfinger is not only celebrating the 20th anniversary of Vulture Street, but they are also commemorating 20 years since the release of their album Odyssey Number Five. To mark this milestone, the band is releasing a deluxe LP edition of the album along with new merchandise and a collection of new tracks.
