16 Arrested for peddling ganja on A.P.-Telangana borders in separate cases
In recent developments, the NTR Commissionerate Police have successfully apprehended a total of 16 individuals involved in the smuggling and consumption of ganja. These arrests were made in separate cases along the Andhra Pradesh (A.P.) and Telangana borders.
Eleven ganja peddlers were arrested by the NTR Commissionerate Police in different locations within the Tiruvuru police station limits. Acting on a tip-off regarding the rampant smuggling and sale of ganja in Dara Purnaiah Township, Astalakshmi Temple center, and other vulnerable areas, the police, led by Circle Inspector R. Bhima Raju, conducted raids and successfully apprehended the suspects on July 8. Additionally, a juvenile was also taken into custody during the operation, as stated by Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) M. Ramesh. The accused individuals were found to be supplying ganja to addicts in villages while profiting from their illicit activities. Approximately 4 kg of contraband was seized from their possession, according to the ACP.
In a separate case, the Nandigama Police arrested five ganja smugglers and consumers in Jaggaiahpet, also seizing 2 kg of ganja from them. The arrested individuals hailed from various villages in both Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, as revealed by Nandigama Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) K. Janardhan Naidu. Vigilance has been increased at the borders to combat ganja smuggling, commented Mr. Naidu.
