A portion of the national highway in Himachal Pradesh’s Kullu district has been washed away due to heavy rainfall and landslides. This has caused significant disruption in traffic between Mandi and Kullu, leaving several vehicles stranded. Efforts are currently underway to clear the affected stretch and restore normalcy.

The weather office has issued a red alert for seven districts in Himachal Pradesh, including Shimla, Sirmaur, Lahaul and Spiti, Chamba, and Sol. These areas have experienced landslides and flash floods, with rivers like the Beas flowing above the danger mark. As a result, 133 roads in the hill state are closed for vehicular traffic.

To ensure public safety, the Kullu district administration has postponed the Shrikhand Mahadev Yatra until July 11. This pilgrimage, known for its difficulty, attracts many devotees each year. Temporarily halting the yatra is a necessary precautionary measure in light of the current weather conditions.

Himachal Pradesh has already suffered a loss of Rs 362 crore during this monsoon season, according to the state emergency operation center. The state government and relevant authorities are actively working to mitigate the impact of the heavy rain and subsequent disasters.

In conclusion, the heavy rainfall and landslides in Himachal Pradesh have caused severe damage to the national highway in Kullu district. The resulting disruption in traffic has left numerous vehicles stranded, prompting authorities to initiate clearance operations. With a red alert issued for seven districts in the state, cautionary measures are being taken to ensure public safety. The closure of 133 roads and the postponement of the Shrikhand Mahadev Yatra highlight the severity of the situation. The state government is actively responding to the crisis, but the magnitude of the losses incurred emphasizes the need for continued support and assistance.
