Delhi’s Transport Minister, Kailash Gahlot, has directed the transport commissioner to hold off on deploying the newly introduced electric buses if their technical defects are not rectified by Sunday. This decision follows a series of breakdowns experienced by the electric buses that were recently added to the Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) fleet.

Gahlot expressed his concern over the fact that one in every three e-buses had been breaking down daily, even though they were less than a week old. To address this issue, Gahlot contacted transport commissioner Ashish Kundra, urging him to take the necessary steps to ensure the buses’ defects are fixed before they are put into operation.

The electric buses, provided by Tata Motors, have encountered several initial glitches, prompting Kundra to write to the company about the dismal operational outcomes observed so far. However, Tata Motors assured that an expert team at the Mayapuri depot was already prioritizing the resolution of the initial glitches to ensure the smooth functioning of the buses. The company also emphasized that the e-buses had collectively covered over 1,00,000km in just six days, demonstrating their potential.

Tata Motors maintained that the buses may require optimization based on actual running conditions to deliver optimal results. They stated that the company had set up a state-of-the-art enabling ecosystem at the Mayapuri depot, dedicated to charging, maintaining, and operating the e-bus fleet.

The decision to hold off on deploying the e-buses until their technical defects are resolved is an important step towards ensuring the reliability of the electric fleet. This move aligns with the government’s commitment to provide efficient and sustainable transportation solutions to the people of Delhi.

While the initial glitches faced by the e-buses have raised concerns, it is encouraging to see that Tata Motors is actively working to address these issues. The collaboration between the government and the automobile manufacturer is essential in ensuring the smooth operation of the electric bus fleet.

It remains to be seen how quickly the technical defects will be rectified and when the e-buses will be ready to hit the roads. The decision to delay their deployment reflects the government’s priority in providing a reliable and efficient public transportation system in Delhi.

As the e-bus fleet continues to undergo improvements, it is crucial for all stakeholders to work together and prioritize the safety and comfort of the passengers. With the adoption of electric vehicles gaining momentum globally, Delhi’s initiative to incorporate these eco-friendly buses into its public transportation system is commendable.

The transport commissioner has taken a proactive approach by communicating with Tata Motors about the performance of the e-buses. This open dialogue and collaboration between the government and the automobile manufacturer are vital in ensuring the successful integration of electric buses into the DTC fleet.

In conclusion, the decision to delay the deployment of new e-buses in Delhi until their technical defects are rectified demonstrates the government’s commitment to providing reliable and efficient public transportation. By addressing the initial glitches and optimizing the buses’ performance, Delhi aims to deliver a sustainable and convenient transport solution for its residents. As the rectification process progresses, it is essential for all stakeholders to work together towards a seamless integration of electric buses into the city’s public transportation system.
