Turning to Iran, Kirby condemned the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps’ attack on maritime shipping, stating that it is not new behavior. He emphasized that the United States will maintain a robust security presence in and around the Gulf and explore additional measures to pressure the Iranian regime.
In the case of Sudan, where multiple ceasefire deals have failed to hold, Kirby revealed that American diplomats are actively working to reach a solution with the warring factions. He stressed the need for the parties involved to honor their commitments and allow humanitarian assistance to reach those in need.
Addressing the recent violence in the West Bank, Kirby stated that the United States maintains routine dialogue with Israel and believes that a two-state solution is still viable. De-escalation of tensions and condemnation of violence from both sides are necessary for progress.
