Rajasthan School Teacher Given 10-Year Jail Term for Raping Minor Student
Vishvendra Meena, a 32-year-old school teacher from Rajasthan, has been sentenced to 10 years in prison for raping a minor student. The conviction was made on Wednesday, and Meena, who was previously out on bail, has now been sent to jail. In addition to the jail term, Meena has also been imposed a penalty of ₹10 lakh by the court, according to public prosecutor Harinarayan Singh.
The incident came to light when the father of the rape survivor lodged a report at the Anta police station on November 10, 2016. At the time, his daughter was a 9th-grade student at a village school. The father accused Meena, who hails from the Gendoli area in Bundi district, of allegedly raping his daughter, as well as filming the assault on his phone.
The public prosecutor, Singh, further explained that Meena later used the video as a tool for blackmail. He threatened the girl, stating that he would share the footage online and even fail her in exams if she disclosed the incident to anyone.
Meena was initially arrested after an initial investigation and later granted bail. However, following the conviction, he has been ordered to serve the 10-year prison sentence.
The teacher was charged under Section 376 of the Indian Penal Code along with relevant sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. The severity of the charges reflects the serious nature of the crime committed.
