Ghanaian Times – NHIA CEO Dr Okoe Boye Applauds Golden Arms for Outstanding Performance at Africa Armwrestling Championship

The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA), Dr Bernard Okoe Boye, has commended Ghana’s national armwrestling team, the Golden Arms, for their remarkable achievement at the recently concluded Africa Armwrestling Championship (AWC) held in Ghana. The team’s exceptional performance saw them secure a total of 132 medals, emerging as the overall winners of the 12th AWC.

The Golden Arms secured an impressive tally of 47 gold medals, 55 silver medals, and 30 bronze medals after two days of intense left and right arm battles. Despite facing tough competition from armwrestling powerhouses Egypt and Nigeria, the Ghanaian team demonstrated their prowess and determination to emerge victorious.

In recognition of their outstanding performance, Dr Okoe Boye welcomed a delegation of officials and pullers to the NHIA offices on Monday. Acknowledging their achievements, he praised the team for their remarkable display at the championship, and emphasized that their success was a clear indication of their readiness for the Africa Games, which will be hosted by Ghana in 2024.

The NHIA CEO, an avid fan of the sport and former Member of Parliament for Ledzokuku Constituency, expressed his pleasure at witnessing Ghana’s success in armwrestling. Dr Okoe Boye urged the team to continue training diligently and maintain discipline in order to replicate their remarkable feat at the Africa Games.

Furthermore, Dr Okoe Boye commended the Ghana Armwrestling Federation (GAF) for their successful organization of the event and their continuous efforts to promote and develop the sport. He also highlighted the NHIA’s commitment to partnering with institutions that promote physical activity and healthy living.

Receiving the delegation on behalf of the NHIA, Dr Okoe Boye expressed his unwavering support for the sport and assured the armwrestlers of his continued assistance.

The team, led by Mr Charles Osei Asibey, President of the Ghana and Africa Armwrestling Federations, visited the NHIA office to officially express gratitude to Dr Okoe Boye and the NHIA for their support during the AWC. During the visit, the team presented the medals and trophy won at the championship, emphasizing that their remarkable achievement would not have been possible without the NHIA’s invaluable support.

In an exciting revelation, Mr Charles Osei Asibey disclosed that Ghana has been granted the hosting rights for the 2024 World Armwrestling Championship. While awaiting the official announcement in Kazakhstan, he expressed his enthusiasm for Ghana’s upcoming role as the host of this prestigious event.
