L’Oréal, a leading beauty and skincare company, recently presented new research and innovations in skin health at the World Congress of Dermatology (WCD) in Singapore. The studies conducted by La Roche-Posay and Vichy focused on the impact of pigmentation and hormonal variations on women’s skin and scalp.

La Roche-Posay’s study, the largest of its kind, surveyed 48,000 people across 34 countries and found that half of them suffer from self-reported pigmentary disorders (PD), such as vitiligo, post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation, and melasma. The study revealed that nearly a third of the participants reported a strong negative impact on their quality of life due to these disorders. Additionally, 44% of those affected by PD reported hiding the visible part of their affected skin. This research sheds light on the prevalence and psychological impact of pigmentation disorders on individuals.

Vichy’s study, on the other hand, focused on hormonal variations and their effects on women’s well-being and skin health. The survey, which involved 20,000 women from 20 countries, found that 72% of participants felt that hormonal variations had a negative impact on their overall well-being. The majority of women (75%) reported experiencing or worsening skin problems during their menstrual periods. These findings highlight the need to provide targeted solutions for women experiencing hormonal imbalances and related skin issues.

L’Oréal leverages its decades of expertise in dermatology, collaborating with over 4,000 scientists to develop innovative products and services that address various skin disorders. At the WCD, the company showcased its latest innovations in photoprotection, pigmentation, skin defense, and aging. These innovations are underpinned by a commitment to sustainability and inclusivity.

One of L’Oréal’s groundbreaking technologies is Mexoryl 400, a patented key ingredient found in UVMune 400 by La Roche-Posay. This technology effectively protects the skin against ultra-long UVA rays, preventing skin damage caused by photoaging, photo pollution, and genetic modifications that could lead to skin cancer.

Another notable innovation is Pro-Xylane by L’Oréal Paris, which is the first active ingredient obtained through green science and derived from natural sugars found in beechwood. Pro-Xylane has been patented for over 20 years and serves as a benchmark for L’Oréal’s anti-aging solutions.

In terms of skincare solutions, L’Oréal presented Madecassoside found in Baume Cicaplast B5 by La Roche-Posay. This ingredient, derived from Centella Asiatica plant leaves, water, and ethanol from sugar cane, is known for its soothing and anti-inflammatory properties, aiding in skin healing.

Barbara Lavernos, Deputy CEO in charge of research, innovation, and technology at L’Oréal, expressed delight in returning to the World Congress of Dermatology with new insights on global skin concerns. L’Oréal aims to collaborate with the dermatology community to address people’s pressing skin and hair concerns, including hyperpigmentation, sun protection, acne, and dry skin. Their ultimate goal is to enable more people to enjoy healthier skin and a higher quality of life through extensive research, innovation, and technological advancements.

Myriam Cohen-Welgryn, the worldwide president of L’Oréal Dermatological Beauty Division, emphasized their commitment to advancing skin health for all individuals, regardless of their diversity. By increasing scientific knowledge, creating sustainable products, and providing augmented services, L’Oréal aims to extend access to skin health to more people worldwide.

In conclusion, L’Oréal’s research and innovations presented at the World Congress of Dermatology highlight the company’s dedication to improving skin health. The studies conducted by La Roche-Posay and Vichy shed light on the prevalence and impact of pigmentary disorders and hormonal variations on women’s skin and well-being. L’Oréal’s commitment to dermatologist-validated innovation and sustainability underscores its mission to provide effective solutions for various skin concerns, ultimately improving the quality of life for individuals around the world.
