Elgin Days Anniversary Jubilee is set to take place this weekend from July 6 to 9 in Elgin. This annual event promises a fun-filled experience for the whole family, with a range of activities and entertainment to enjoy. From movie nights to parades, there is something for everyone to enjoy.
The festivities kick off on Thursday night with an outdoor movie at Heritage Park. Families can gather at the Red Brick Schoolhouse to watch Super Mario Bros. and indulge in lawn games, balloon animals, snacks, and cotton candy. The movie will begin at dusk, weather permitting.
Thursday night also offers Lions Bingo at the hall and the start of the silent auction. Visitors can bid on items throughout the weekend, with the auction ending on Sunday afternoon at 4:30 p.m.
On Saturday afternoon, the highlight of the event will be the parade, taking place at 2 p.m. Those interested in participating can register beforehand by emailing Michelle Jones at michellejones2@hotmail.ca.
Friday night offers a range of entertainment options, including Yuk Yuk’s comedy at the Lions Hall at 6 p.m., disco roller skating at the Elgin rink from 6 to 10 p.m., and a four-hand euchre tournament at 7:30 p.m. at the hall.
Saturday promises a full day of excitement, with a variety of activities taking place. The day kicks off with breakfast at 7 a.m., followed by live music, yard sales, snake rock painting, book sales, children’s activities, bouncy castles, and a petting zoo. Families can also enjoy kite flying, barbecues, anniversary cake, and a chance to touch a truck. The day culminates with a delicious chicken barbecue at the Lions hall at 4:30 p.m., offering a half chicken dinner for $25.
The events on Sunday include an open house at the Red Brick School from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. and the conclusion of the silent auction at 4 p.m. Additionally, there will be a four-hand euchre tournament starting at 11:30 a.m. at the hall.
