A section of Members of Parliament (MPs) is urging President William Ruto’s administration to address the challenges facing the smooth implementation of the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC). The lack of policy and a clear framework have affected the successful transition from the 8-4-4 system of education, according to Lugari MP Nabii Nabwera.

MP Robert Mbui, the representative for Kathiani, echoed MP Nabwera’s concerns, emphasizing the need for proper planning to address the challenges facing the CBC system of education. Mbeere South MP Geoffrey Ruku further raised concerns about the confusion caused by recent government guidelines requiring the establishment of JSS in select primary schools. This has rendered classrooms for classes seven and eight redundant. Ruku called on the Ministry of Education to develop a comprehensive policy and funding plan for JSS.
