Despite Vos’s defense of his views, critics have pointed out flaws in his historical understanding. He has claimed that more Republicans than Democrats in Congress supported the Civil Rights Act of 1964, ignoring the political realignment that occurred during that era. Many southern Democrats, who were proponents of segregation, later became Republicans and vehemently opposed anti-discrimination measures.
